According to the National Center for Education Statistics and Bureau of Justice Statistics, most bullying takes place in middle school.
Although we might like to think otherwise, bullying in its various forms will always happen in human societies. Regardless of who we are and where we are, all of us will experience some kind of bullying throughout our lives. Let’s see its definition according to the American Psychological Association: “Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. Bullying can take the form of physical contact, words or more subtle actions.” As we read this, we can remember instances we experienced it and the emotional and even physical pain we suffered.
The years that transition from childhood to adolescence can be very tricky. Feelings and emotional needs seem to be far stronger and overpowering, and the need for social acceptance becomes nearly a priority for those we call preteens (10-13 years old) It is during this age that many begin to discover their personality, identity, likes and dislikes, and start their journey to making everyday decisions. During this stage, they learn small steps to independence.
At The Universal Church, we have the PT Force Group, which is dedicated solely to the preteens with the help of select and trained volunteers who have a relationship and commitment to God and are willing to give the best in seeing each child reach fullness in life and be spiritually and emotionally healthy. It is not easy; parents know it so well. However, regardless of how long it takes, the PT Force will be there doing all it can to help them. The group also offers parent-child counseling and guidance. Meetings for the preteens take place every Sunday at 10 am at select locations of The Universal Church, and on Saturday, November 12th at 3 pm at 1091 Fulton Street in Brooklyn, NY, the group will have the “No Bullying” Event to guide preteens in how to deal and overcome this social problem. The event will be fun-packed with musical competition, dance and theatrical presentation, and the best: friends and people who care. Contact us for more information about other locations in the USA.
