Spiritual Contraband

Spiritual Contraband

Many people in the world don’t understand and appreciate discipline, but it is vital for a society to function.

Let’s talk about contraband for example. A guard that works in a corrections facility has to be on the lookout for it.

I am sure during his training he is told of the dangers of carrying in contraband and the consequences if he should ever disregard the guidelines given. Can you imagine this security guard going to work and at the checkpoint they recover; knives, scissors, and to top it off a handgun? For sure, he would be fired on the spot. And of course, the authorities would be called and this certainly would end with jail time. Keeping this scenario in mind, read the Bible verse:

I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:10)

What will the Lord find when He searches your heart? Will He find spiritual contraband? Hate, anger, malice, grudges, unforgiveness, evil thoughts…? You can’t carry any of these things through life and live happily, nor please God.

So think about this today, tomorrow, and going forward… what do I need to let go of? What is my heart trying to carry, that I need to leave behind? Offload those things and you’ll enter into happiness.
