Unisocial Event Queens, NYC

Ozone Park, Queens Unisocial Reached out to the Community of South Richmond Hill

Unisocial Event on South Richmond Hill, Queens on June 22nd, 2024

The Unisocial of South Ozone Park, Queens, NYC, distributed gift bags and clothing in the South Richmond Hill neighborhood on June 22nd, 2024.

South Richmond Hill Diversity and Challenges

South Richmond Hill boasts a rich diversity resulting from the arrival of immigrants from Latin America, Asia, and India over time. It is also home to a community of Americans with South Asian and Indo-Caribbean heritage. The Little Guyana and Little Punjab areas are top cultural spots in the community.

Among the issues faced by residents of South Richmond Hill are domestic violence and drug-related crime. The 102nd Precinct, which oversees South Richmond Hill and some surrounding neighborhoods, received 1506 domestic violence complaints during 2023 alone.

Being a Helper

“He who despises his neighbor sins, But how blessed is he who is gracious to the poor” (Proverbs 14:21)

Being a helping neighbor is at the core of loving and serving God, and those who desire to honor Him understand that they can do so by showing His love to those in need not only of food and clothing but, most importantly, of the Word of God.

Aware of the social issues residents of the southwestern parts of Queens are facing, eight volunteers of UniSocial from South Ozone Park took it upon themselves to reach out to the community once a month. On June 22nd, 2024, they distributed gift bags (with canned goods and essential toiletries) and clothing to families and women in need, including women who are victims of domestic violence and residing in shelters. More than 50 people benefited from this event.

Pastor Shivnarine, his wife Nadia, and the Unisocial volunteers shared a word of faith and prayed for those who stopped to receive help. Unisocial believes only food and clothing are insufficient to ease a person’s distressed soul. The Word of God is and will always be the main source of strength and hope to those facing difficult moments. After all, food perishes, but the prayer of faith, the Word of God, and the love shared by those whose hearts are filled with the Holy Spirit, these benefits are long-lasting and life-changing.
