Struggles Can Strengthen Faith and Teach a Person to Remain Dependent on God
During this message of the Fast of Daniel, Bishop Macedo addressed the struggles and challenges faced by those who choose to live by faith. He noted that God never promised a life free from difficulties. On the contrary, afflictions are part of the Christian journey.
The bishop emphasized that a Christian should not expect a life without challenges in this world, recalling the words of the Lord Jesus:
In the world you will have tribulation… (John 16:33)
He explained that persecution, injustice, betrayal, and other challenges are part of the deserts experienced throughout life.
God allows His servants to go through deserts in their lives to teach them to depend even more on Him. Rather than viewing problems as mere obstacles, Christians should recognize that these experiences strengthen their faith and foster humility.
He pointed out that we live in a world surrounded by influences that can jeopardize salvation. Therefore, struggles also serve to keep Christians vigilant and aware of their constant need for God.
The bishop emphasized the critical role of receiving and preserving the Holy Spirit, as He strengthens God’s servants to face battles and remain steadfast in difficult times.
Without the Holy Spirit, a person tends to weaken in the face of adversity. Conversely, those who have God’s presence within them find strength, guidance, and security to persevere and move forward, regardless of their circumstances.
Furthermore, Bishop Macedo highlighted that instead of complaining or solely seeking answers from others, those filled with the Spirit of God learn to turn to the Lord, understanding that true help comes from Him.
He explained that struggles often arise precisely when a person is pleasing God and advancing in faith. In these moments, it is vital to recognize that difficulties do not signify defeat. Rather, they can indicate that the person is getting closer to realizing what God has prepared for their life.
