This Thursday, December 12th, during the Love Therapy at the Temple of Solomon, Bishop Renato Cardoso and Cristiane Cardoso explained how the order of priorities transforms lives and relationships.
Bishop Renato began by emphasizing that the human heart will always have something or someone in its first place. Therefore, your heart has a podium. If God is not in first place on that podium, something or someone will be, and therein lies the root of all suffering.
“Everything you put first, that is not God, will make you suffer—For nothing and no one is capable of being in this place,” he emphasized. Thus, this search to fill the internal void with external things, such as money, relationships, or status, leads to anxiety and anguish.
Cristiane Cardoso deepened this reflection, explaining that many people have difficulty identifying what is really at the center of their lives: “God means the one who is worshipped. What gladdens you when you think about it? What gives you a very great pleasure? That’s your god!”
With this in mind, she pointed out that in the lives of many, God does not occupy this first place, but rather their personal dreams, marriage, career, etc. Cristiane also warned about the dangers of selfishness—when a person places themselves at the center of everything: “A selfish person is difficult because they only think about themselves. Not even friends want to be around someone like that. Imagine a husband or a wife?”
The couple emphasized that a person’s true value comes from God and not from material things or the approval of others. Bishop Renato then used the example of David, who found his identity and value in God. David suffered rejection, but God told him He would be his Father. He found his worth in God.
I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; and I will not remove My lovingkindness from him, as I removed it from him who was before you. (1 Chronicles 17:13)
God desires to have a close and intimate relationship with us. But instead of receiving this from God, many seek their value in other things. “When a person does not put God in His rightful place, they end up putting something or someone else in that place, and if they lose that, they think they will never be happy again. But the Holy Spirit makes up for the lack of everything and everyone that you lost or never had,” he said.
Bishop Renato then highlighted that the solution to all insecurities lies in the Altar. “You must overcome your past, emptiness, and insecurities on the Altar of God. Put God first in your heart, and He will restore and coordinate your life forever,” he concluded.
