A Day of Pampering and Support

On August 17th, 2024, residents were treated to a variety of free services designed to promote well-being, including:

  • Manicures and Haircuts: Attendees were pampered with free manicures and haircuts, enhancing their self-esteem and providing a much-needed boost.
  • Soothing Massages: Relaxing back massages were offered, helping residents unwind and destress.
  • Healthy Nutrition Tips: Valuable insights on healthy eating were shared, comparing good and bad nutrition to inspire healthier choices.

The team also provided guidance on practical matters, assisting residents with obtaining driver’s licensesIDs, job opportunities, and connecting them to essential resources in Harris County.

Community Connections

Participants expressed their gratitude and excitement for the event. Garecia, from The Universal Church in Houston’s South Park area, emphasized the importance of informing residents about good nutrition. Alice, a volunteer, showcased her skills by offering hair braiding while sharing the joy of serving the community.

The event also catered to emotional well-being. Many attendees, like Alicia, shared their experiences of finding comfort and relief from anxiety through the caring interactions with volunteers.

Camryn:

“Hi everyone! My name is Camryn, and currently, we are at the Unisocial Block Party, and I am doing retwist on this beautiful, lovely girl’s hair.”

Sandra:

“Hi. Hello, my name is Sandra and I’m one of the representatives for Assurance Therapeutic Outreach (ATO). We are here to provide services to our community. Those could be academic, social, and emotional support.”

Alicia:

“Hi. My name is Alicia, and this is a great event. The people are great. They’re great spiritual people. And I was having an anxiety attack. One of the ladies helped me out, and the other lady gave me a massage, and it calmed me. They’re doing a great job for the community.”

Sheila, from UBB:

“My name is Sheila. I’m cutting hair. Anybody who comes up to me, I’m going to cut their hair… I did 22 years. Today, I’m giving back to the community.”

A Spirit of Togetherness

The day was not just about receiving services; it was about building connections and fostering a sense of community. Volunteers and residents alike celebrated the spirit of togetherness, each person contributing to a more supportive environment.

Pastor Edwin praying for the community:
“Lord, set him free and set her free. Let there be peace in every home. Let there be unity in every family. Let there be, oh God, togetherness. In Jesus Christ’s
name, we pray. Amen.”

Unisocial is all about coming together, supporting each other, and making our community stronger.

In conclusion, the Unisocial event at Cuney Homes exemplified the profound impact of community engagement and the importance of supporting one another. Through compassion and care, they created a memorable day that left a lasting impression on everyone involved.
