On November 28, Seventeen Volunteers From Unisocial Gathered in the Greenspoint Area of Houston to Host a Thanksgiving Event
On November 28, 2024, at 11 AM, seventeen volunteers from Unisocial gathered in the Greenspoint area of Houston, TX, to host a Thanksgiving event.
Houston is renowned as one of the most diverse cities and the second-most populous city in Texas. It is also home to numerous cultural institutions and exhibits, including the Houston Museum District and the Houston Theater District.
Houston is a great city with amazing and caring people. However, that also has its challenges, among them food insecurity. A recent poll found that over half of public school families have experienced food insecurity. The issue goes beyond Houston, impacting the entire region.
In Southeast Texas, nearly one million people experience food insecurity. Many have reported not paying bills, not buying self-care essentials, cutting meal sizes or skipping meals, and eating less nutritious meals to survive the issue.
During the holiday season, there is much pressure to provide great meals to the family, and many low-income households cannot meet this expectation, causing stress and anxiety.
On November 28, 2024, at 11 AM, seventeen volunteers from Unisocial gathered in the Greenspoint area of Houston, TX, to host a Thanksgiving event. The team provided a hot Thanksgiving meal and a warm moment of community fellowship to over 150 attendees. Pastor David conducted a prayer, sharing a short message of faith and encouragement, nourishing not only the body but also the soul.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Unisocial Volunteer Laticia Lockett shared her thoughts on the event, “We had a special Thanksgiving event for the Greenspoint community. Over 150 meals were prepared for families in need. Before distributing the food, we held a mini prayer service featuring two testimonies of overcoming challenges and life transformation through the power of faith to show that their lives, too, can change. Many families came and received the message and food with gratitude.”
Salvador, also a Unisocial volunteer, expressed his experience, “For me, it was an awesome event. Not only did we give out food, but people were also spiritually fed with food that doesn’t perish. Seeing the tears from many of them showed this was something they truly needed.”
