The Difference Between a Man Who Lies and One Who Tells the Truth

On April Fool’s Day, Understand Why This Habit Is So Harmful

The Difference Between a Man Who Lies and One Who Tells the Truth

You may be familiar with a liar, especially if you aren’t one yourself. Some people lie out of fear of losing a benefit or hesitation about how the other person will react to the truth. Lying can even become an unconscious family tradition. For example, if a father lies to his wife and she lies back, their son may repeat this pattern in his own life. As a husband, he might tell his wife that he was late to meet her because of traffic when, in reality, he was simply late for another reason. He might promise not to repeat this mistake, but the truth is that he has no intention of keeping that commitment; it’s just another lie.

Deceiver

There are also cases in which men learn from others how to lie. They think it’s cool to be sly and smarter than others. To cover up their mistakes at work, they usually tell their boss that a colleague is to blame for a certain situation. One of their goals whenever they lie is to stay one step ahead of everyone else. However, when they are caught in their first lie, they quickly invent a second one, then a third, and so on. Eventually, they lose track of how many lies they’ve told and what they originally said because they are liars.

Harmful Consequences

Even the smallest, seemingly innocent lie can lead to serious consequences for both the liar and those affected by it. When confronted, the liar often denies their falsehood. However, there comes a point when the scale of the deception is so significant that no one believes the person is capable of telling the truth. As a result, their own family, friends, and even strangers begin to view them with suspicion, fully aware of their dishonesty.

The Lie and the Truth

To change this attitude, we need to understand that every lie has a father, the devil, as described in the Bible (John 8:44). You may even be influenced by him to lie, but the responsibility for the act is always yours. God abhors lies because He is the Truth Himself (John 14:6).

Get Closer to God

Many people claim they struggle to break free from the chains of lies, but individuals need to learn to be honest with themselves. By genuinely seeking God and following His direction, they have the chance to face their fears and recognize that even the most “innocent” lie is unacceptable. Those who have His Spirit are fulfilled in their lives and, therefore, do not need to make up stories about anything.
If you are not yet with God, seek Him immediately. If you have His Spirit, strengthen that bond daily through prayer and the exercise of faith.
