Night Angels and Community Support in Montgomery, Alabama

Montgomery and Homelessness

Montgomery, Alabama, is rich in history. It was once home to the First White House of the Confederacy and, later, a pivotal center of the Civil Rights Movement, known for the Montgomery Bus Boycotts. However, the city faces a significant challenge: an estimated 886 individuals are considered homeless on a given night, with homelessness affecting not only downtown Montgomery but spreading throughout the entire city and county.

Night Angels and Community Support

On August 27th, 2024, at 9 PM, volunteers of the Night Angels project came together to support those in need. The team of eight provided warm soup and offered prayers and words of faith and encouragement to about 20 individuals passing through. Their mission was to extend care and compassion to those facing difficult circumstances.

Reflections

Pastor Daniel Williams shared his thoughts on the event: “The purpose was Spirit-led. We saw people suffering who would come to us, or when we visited other locations, like when we found a young man who had been put out by his parents and relatives, now living on the streets.”

Bible Verse Inspiration

For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; (Matthew 25:35)
