For the First Time, Unisocial, an Initiative That Unites All the Social Programs of The Universal Church, Hosted the ‘Dodging Hunger’ Event in the Philippines on Sunday, August 18th
For the first time, Unisocial, an initiative that unites all the social programs of The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, hosted the ‘Dodging Hunger’ event in the Philippines on Sunday, August 18th, 2024. With the help of 200 dedicated volunteers, the event successfully collected and distributed essential food baskets to those in need across seven different locations in the country. In total, 700 food baskets were provided to financially struggling families.
The main event was held at the Marikina Sports Complex in Metro Manila, drawing a crowd of approximately 600 people. The day was filled with activities, including a lively soccer match between Brazilian and Filipino teams, basketball games, and live performances by the FJU Music Band (also known as Youth Power Group), featuring dance and music.
One of the recipients, Esperlita Maris Gomez, expressed her deep gratitude for the assistance, particularly as her family has been severely affected by the recent floods in the region. “It’s really a big help for our daily expenses,” she said.
In 2023, floods and landslides in the Philippines affected 2.1 million people, according to a report by CRED. These disasters have frequently left many families homeless and hungry, particularly in areas like Marikina City.
In addition to the food distribution, the event featured a message of hope and salvation delivered by Bishop Randal Junior, who oversees The Universal Church in Asia and Oceania. He emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Many families in Marikina City often suffer due to floods, becoming homeless and going hungry. Therefore, we must come together to help them.”
