Continuation of the “Mysteries of Gethsemane” Bible Study

When we express the desire “I want,” particularly during significant decisions, it often signals the beginning of choices driven by pride, vanity, and stubbornness. Such tendencies can ultimately lead to negative impacts on ourselves and others.

What Jesus Taught Us About Our Will

The Bible warns us that our desires can work against us, which is why the Lord Jesus taught us to pray:

Yet not as I will, but as You will. (Matthew 26:39)

Additionally, in the Lord’s Prayer, we say:

Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)

Gethsemane: The Place of Surrender

Since the time of Eden, God has been warning us about our own desires, and the Lord Jesus resolved this problem in Gethsemane. There, He surrendered His will.

Thus, the Garden of Gethsemane became a meeting point between the Father and the Son. On that final night of prayer, it also became the place where our true self is revealed.

The First Crucifixion: The Surrender of Self-Will

The crucifixion process began long before the events at Calvary. It started in Gethsemane, where the true crucifixion was the surrender of self-will, represented by the phrase “I want.”

Under immense stress, Jesus experienced such agony that He sweated drops of blood. Consequently, the first drop of blood was shed in Gethsemane as He poured out His own will, setting an example for all of us.

If we wish to overcome, we must also learn to surrender our will to the will of the Heavenly Father.
