The Graduation Ceremony Was a Testament to Their Dedication and Growth
On Tuesday, August 1st, 2023, 140 women from the Lane Murray Unit in Gatesville, TX celebrated their graduation from the “Overcoming Anger and Self Awareness” program.
The program, designed to address the complex emotions and challenges that often accompany life behind bars, focused on two key areas: managing anger and developing self-awareness. In an environment where negative emotions can run high, acquiring effective coping mechanisms and seeking strength from God is essential.
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20)
Throughout the program, the participants learned to navigate anger and frustration constructively. They learned to harness their emotions as a means of personal empowerment rather than letting them control their actions.
The Overcoming Anger and Self Awareness graduation ceremony was a testament to their dedication and growth. The room was lively, with a noticeable sense of accomplishment as each graduate received their diploma. The event also featured moments of celebration! There was cake and pizza offered to the graduates as a gesture of recognition for their hard work and perseverance.
Special guests also participated in the graduation ceremony. Mr. Carl Sherman, a Texas House of Representatives member from the 109th district, and Warden England and Chaplain Mafwal attended the graduation.
By empowering these women with tools to manage their anger and nurture self-awareness. The program contributes to their personal and spiritual transformation. It serves as a reminder that with determination, support, and a commitment to personal growth, positive change is possible and achievable even in the face of adversity.
