The importance of patience3 min read

Throughout the day we should exercise patience. Be it in heavy traffic on a Monday morning, for example, or in the bank queue, when it takes more than an hour until it’s time to get it. At all times it is necessary to have the patience to face the challenges of life. But how is the importance of patience?

However, practice has not been constant in the lives of many. So it is not difficult to find people who are stressed and anxious. In a connected society and hypervelocity, the slow internet speed or even the “delay” of the espresso machine causes impatience and stress in the human being.

Fruit of the Holy Spirit

It is important to emphasize that patience is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, but it is not discussed very often, but it should not be discontinued day by day. Especially in regard to the spiritual realm. Without it, the Christian can even fade away in his faith.

Bishop Renato Cardoso recently explained that patience be exercised, even in times of temptation. He based his teachings on the passage from the book of James, chapter 1, verse 2.

“My brethren, have great joy when you meet various temptations; Knowing that the test of your faith worketh patience. “James 1: 2

“Facing temptations and not falling teaches you and produces patience. It is not something that comes naturally, automatically, but by the proof of faith. When you are tempted and resist, it produces in you the virtue of patience, “said the Bishop.

In the same chapter, the apostle James still warns that patience must be perfect (James 1: 4).

“Patience has to be to the end. It is only patient who trusts a better result. Many singles, for example, begin with patience, determined not to get involved with anyone who is not of faith. Until there comes a time that the temptation is very great, and they surrender to anyone and they lose faith. When that happens, patience is not perfect, “said the Bishop.

Importance of Patience

Similarly, the Bible also tells the story of a person who did not possess perfect faith. The prophet Elijah challenged 450 prophets of Baal. He confronted them, saying that he who answered with fire, would truly be the God of Israel. (read 1 Kings 18:24).

The prophets of Baal cried out, but nothing happened (1 Kings 18:29). Elijah, however, in crying, was quickly answered by God with fire from heaven. (1 Kings 18: 36-38).

After this episode, however, Elijah expected that Jezebel and Ahab would surrender to God, but this did not happen. Jezebel sent word to Elijah that he would kill him (1 Kings 19: 1-2). And Elijah, who had faced more than 400 men, fled with fear (1 Kings 19: 4).

“Jezebel and the reign of Ahab fell, as God had determined, but not in the hour Elijah expected. So many people do not have the patience. They pray, fast, sacrifice, do and determine the miracle and, if it does not happen, they discourage, fail, abandon the faith and “look bad” with God, Bishop Renato reiterated.

In addition, patience must also be permanent until the coming of the Lord Jesus (James 5: 7). “It’s not until the end of the fast. It is until the coming of the Lord! You have to strengthen your faith to maintain your patience, “concluded the Bishop.
