The 7 myths about love3 min read

The myths surrounding love hold people back, hindering the progress in their love life. Those who focus on these myths are actually focusing on the least important things, and chances are that they will be disappointed and become frustrated at the end. You must remember that building happiness and love takes time and effort, so it’s important to keep an open mind.

1) “Men are all the same”

This statement holds a bad connotation and almost makes you hopeless. Your bad experiences in the past should not define the new people who come into your life. You cannot generalize everyone based on the type of people you have met before. Believing that everyone is the same is the equivalent of giving up, and giving up is not an option if you want to succeed in your love life.

2) “I haven’t found my soulmate”
The idea of finding someone who fits you perfectly is impossible. Both of you don’t have to be exactly the same. In fact, how else will you learn from one another if you are not different? No two people are the same, and it’s exactly that difference that makes the relationship work beautifully.

3) “I want a relationship so I can be happy”
Only when two individuals are happy in themselves should they come together for a relationship to work beautifully. It is important to be happy when you are alone. Having someone else in your life will complement your happiness. You cannot depend on someone else to make you happy.

4) “Enjoy it while it lasts!”
Many people go into a relationship with the mentality that it will not last. So essentially, they are preparing themselves for the worst. This means that they go through their relationship full of doubts and lacking confidence. Time does not bring a relationship to an end but the things that you do or not. For example, if you stop doing what you did in the beginning of a relationship, then things will eventually become less interesting. Develop a “Make it last” mindset instead.

5) “I can’t control myself”
For most situations in life, we use our minds to make planned and thoughtful decisions. However, we seem to lack this instinct when it comes to our love life. By not using your mind, you could easily ignore the signs that this relationship is not for you. By using your heart, you end up ignoring these signs. You disregard what you know and make a decision with your heart instead of your mind, decisions that can cause many problems in your love life.

6) “Better to be alone than in bad company”
This statement only allows for two options, but what if we ignored both and created a third option: to be in good company. Many people tend to fear bad company as a result of past experiences. However, this should not be a reason for us to isolate ourselves and not try to find good company.

7) “Follow your heart”
Your heart is for feeling, not for deciding! Therefore, follow your mind and not your heart.
