The Second Night of the Great Harvest

The Harvest Is Ready—Are You Laboring?

The Second Night of the Great Harvest

“Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!” (John 4:35)

In this passage, Jesus tells His disciples that there is a right time for everything—and the time to act is now. Imagine fields that are fully ripe and waiting for workers. Any farmer knows that when the harvest arrives, waiting is not an option. There is only a limited time to gather the crops once they are ready. Similarly, the spiritual harvest demands immediate attention.

This urgency is emphasized further in Matthew 9:37, where the Lord Jesus says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.”  In other words, many people are ready to receive God’s Word, yet only a few are willing to share the good news.

Who Are the Laborers?

The laborers are believers who have surrendered their lives to the Lord Jesus. The harvest consists of people eager to know Him.

Think about it: if you discovered an incredible new restaurant or a life-changing product, you would share it with others, wouldn’t you? The path to salvation is meant to be shared. However, many remain silent, preoccupied with TV, social media, or the gym, and then wonder why they feel empty. True fulfillment comes from investing in the harvest.

The Joy in Sowing and Reaping

And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. (John 4:36)

There is real joy in both sowing and reaping. When one person shares the good news and another receives it, both rejoice. Every seed planted and every life touched brings God’s joy to all involved.

Ask yourself: am I planting, reaping, or both? If you’re doing neither, you’re missing out on God’s plan. Planting may feel slow, and reaping can be challenging—but both bring joy. Everyone has a part to play in this great harvest, and thankfully, we are not left to do it alone.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit

Through the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God dwelling within us, we are equipped and empowered to labor in the harvest. He provides courage when we feel uncertain, wisdom when we don’t know what to say, and strength to make a real impact.
