The Geometry Compass and the Wedding Ring Are Symbols of the Ideal Marriage

The Geometry Compass and the Wedding Ring Are Symbols of the Ideal Marriage

During the Love Therapy at the Temple of Solomon on Thursday, February 13th, Bishop Renato Cardoso and his wife, Cristiane, explored the symbolism of the compass as an essential tool for marriage.

Continuing with the theme “Tools of Intelligent Love,” the importance of non-negotiable principles within a marital relationship was discussed, comparing them to the precision functions of a compass.

The Geometry Compass: A Metaphor for a Balanced Marriage

The Geometry Compass and the Wedding Ring Are Symbols of the Ideal MarriageThe compass, known for drawing perfect circles in mathematics, architecture, and design, was a metaphor for building a solid and balanced marriage. The lecture highlighted the need for a fixed point, which symbolizes the fundamental principles of marriage, such as truth, respect, and commitment. Without these foundations, the relationship cannot achieve the harmony necessary to form a “perfect circle.”

Another point discussed was the symbolism of the covenant represented by the wedding ring. It is described as a perfect and infinite circle, representing an unbreakable pact between the spouses and God.

“If the circle breaks, it is no longer a ring; it becomes just an arc,”  emphasized Bishop Renato. He reinforced the idea that any external factor—whether it’s a friendship, a habit, or some influence from the outside—can weaken a relationship if the couple is not committed to their vows and principles.

The Importance of Constant Reminders of Commitments

“Just as Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross is remembered in the Lord’s Supper, the ring is a constant reminder that love requires sacrifice and partnership,”  she said.

The Danger of Selfishness in Relationships

The lecture also warned of the dangers of selfishness in relationships. “Many times, arguments and personal preferences obscure the real meaning of union,”  said the bishop. He stressed that differences are natural but should not overshadow the marriage.

The Two Legs of the Compass: Balance and Flexibility

“While one leg needs to be firmly rooted in fixed principles, the other must be flexible and adaptable to life’s changes. This approach allows the couple to navigate their journey together and avoid drawing, as has been said, ‘a monster’ instead of a perfect circle,”  the bishop commented.
