Outreach Benefits School for Students With Visual Impairments in Sierra Leone, West Africa

On Friday, October 18th, 2024, Unisocial held a food donation event for the Milton Margai School For the Blind in the Freetown neighborhood of Sierra Leone, West Africa.

Details About the Outreach

• The event counted with the support of ten volunteers.

• More than 100 students benefited.

• On the day, Unisocial distributed various types of needed foods.

• Among them, 100 kg of rice, 20 liters of vegetable oil, 14 kg of onions, 5 kg of tomato paste, 50 boxes of tea, 100 boxes of ready-made seasoning, 100 units of powdered milk, and 570 bottles of mineral water.

• During the event, a theatrical play specially designed for the visually impaired was performed by volunteers from Força Jovem Universal (FJU), also known as Youth Power Group (YPG).

It Is Worth Highlighting

• This was Unisocial’s first donation outreach made in favor of the school.

• Previously, an on-site evangelistic visit took place, where students were invited to participate in a meeting at the church. Around 30 students attended.

Pastor Walter Sant’Ana, responsible for The Universal Church’s evangelistic work in Sierra Leon, commented, “On our first visit to the school and when the students came to The Universal Church, we were able to understand better the difficulties they faced. That’s why we decided to come together to help them. And, as small as this action was, it was done with love and solidarity. It’s the beginning of a big change.”

A Message of Faith

During the event, those present received a word of faith and encouragement. Within the reality experienced by the students, everyone understood that although the physical eyes may suffer certain limitations, the faith that comes through the Word of God can make them see much further than the physical eyes.

Furthermore, the students also understood that for God, everyone has their value regardless of their physical difficulties.

A New Partnership

The outreach was well received by everyone. Mr. Sallieu Turay, director of the Milton Margai School and also visually impaired, was very happy with the outreach and thanked Unisocial for the visit and donations, seeing this as the beginning of a new friendship between Unisocial and the school.

On the occasion, he said that the school faces many difficulties; Students have three meals a day and do not always have the food they need.
