From November 17th to the 24th, the FJU Olympics Brought Together 12,200 People in 20 Cities Across Argentina
Organized by the Fuerza Joven Universal (FJU), also known as Youth Power Group (YPG), the event featured competitions in sports like soccer, volleyball, basketball, handball, and athletics.
Participants enjoyed a safe and supportive environment. Pablo Asención, one of the athletes, said, “It’s an opportunity to keep your mind busy and, what’s more, sport makes you feel good physically. I thought the organization of the FJU Olympics was very good.”
Event organizer Matías Fernández highlighted the importance of these activities. “We believe that one more person in sports means one less person on the streets and in addiction. Furthermore, this event is an opportunity for them to get to know the work of the FJU up close.”
The FJU, also known as YPG, was originally founded in 1977 and supports youth through cultural events, mental health initiatives, skill-building courses, and sports. Last year, it impacted 3.2 million young people worldwide. These initiatives reflect this youth outreach project’s mission to empower young people and promote physical and mental well-being.
In Stockholm, Sweden, the HELP Project hosted the Mega HELP 2024 on November 24th to support people struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts.
The event included a basketball tournament, a mental health talk, and listening sessions at a designated space. Sweden’s Public Health Agency reports that every year, more than 1,200 suicide deaths happen in the country, highlighting the need for such programs.
Around 50 young people participated. Máximo Akopyan, 18, said, “It was a pleasure to participate in Mega Help. I had a lot of fun, met new people, and had an incredible experience. Towards the end, I could listen to the message, and it helped me face my problems with a new mindset.”
