On November 24th, 2024, at 2 PM, sixteen Caleb Group volunteers visited Southpoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Chicago, known for its deep-dish pizza and vibrant culture, is the third-largest city in the U.S. About 13.6% of its population are seniors. According to Caring Across, 20.4% of older adults needing long-term care live alone, while 79.6% live with family. In 2023, the Illinois Department on Aging partnered with 163 home care agencies to assist about 58,200 seniors each month.
On November 24th, 2024, at 2 PM, sixteen Caleb Group volunteers visited Southpoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. They prayed for the residents and staff, asking for healing, salvation, and forgiveness. They also sang Christian songs like “Every Praise,” read Bible passages, and joined activities such as a fun Bible quiz. At the end, they handed out gift bags and blessed the residents. Around 50 seniors participated.
Pastor Bruno Santos Ferreira delivered an inspiring message about the power of forgiveness. He encouraged the residents to let go of grudges and keep their hearts ready for eternity or Jesus’s return, sharing the following Scripture:
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:14)
