An Intelligent Man Has the Correct Life Tools and Knows the Appropriate Time to Use Each One of Them
Changing a tire without a jack or assembling a wardrobe without screws is nearly impossible. The reality is that you need the right tools to accomplish any task. This principle applies not only to manual labor or specific professions but also to your everyday life. Some refer to these essential abilities as soft skills. (In the corporate world, this term describes personal knowledge relating to a professional’s behavior, actions, and reactions.)
“Everyone knows the value and importance of tools. Everyone uses them, and no one has lived without them since the beginning of humanity. God gave us the wisdom to do this; He gave us human beings the intelligence to create tools to make our tasks easier so that we do not have to struggle, suffer, groan, get hurt, and not be able to do what is necessary. So, God gave us wisdom and intelligence to create tools,” said Bishop Renato Cardoso during The Love Therapy at the Temple of Solomon.
We can create and use various tools, whether physical or not, to solve or prevent problems in different areas of life. In terms of health, a balanced diet and appropriate medication are two essential tools for managing well-being and addressing a diagnosed illness. A screwdriver and electrical tape are indispensable for everyday repairs in a home. In family life, a comforting phrase can be the “magic” tool that calms a crying child. In romantic relationships, tools extend beyond wearing a ring or signing a marriage certificate; they include dialogue and respect. (You can learn more about these tools on Thursdays in The Love Therapy.)
There’s no point in having a hammer if you can’t hit the nail without crushing your finger first, and there’s no point in having a wrench if you want to tighten a screw. A man must have the essential tools for everyday life and know how to use each one effectively. For instance, stubbornness can be beneficial when pushing through a workout at the gym, but it can lead to disaster if applied during a conversation with your wife.
Mastering the proper use of each tool requires time and effort, but it is crucial. If not, you risk damaging rather than building or repairing. The passage in Ecclesiastes 10:10 instructs us: “If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success.”
Do a self-assessment to find out which tools you have and which ones you need the most. It could be patience, public speaking skills, or whatever. If you are having trouble improving in any area, complete the IntelliMen Project challenges (even if you have already done so, it is worth repeating them as many times as necessary to improve). On Univer Video, you can watch all the Intellimen meetings.
Are you interested in becoming a better man? The monthly Intellimen meeting is designed for men who want to improve themselves in all areas of their lives. It’s a gathering where men support each other, share helpful advice, and make a commitment to work hard every day to become better husbands, fathers, brothers, sons, friends, boyfriends, employees, business owners, students, servants of God, and members of society, overall, better persons.
