Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ‘Now behold, I Myself have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the children of Israel. Therefore the Levites shall be Mine, (Numbers 3:5-12)
The Levites become firstborn to God due to the importance of the work in His house, serving Him full-time on behalf of His chosen people and sanctifying Him with their lives.
