Inheriting the Blessing

Inheriting the Blessing

Lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears. (Hebrews 12:16-17)

God feels offended and rejected by those who exchange the Father’s blessing—salvation—for the things of this world. So it was with Esau, when he despised Isaac’s birthright blessing. When he wanted to turn back, it was too late, for he did not repent of despising the spiritual blessing. Esau desired only the physical inheritance; therefore, the Lord considered him profane and rejected him as well.
