Many Women Look for Relief and Support in People, Places or Things, but They Are Unaware of the Only One Capable of Offering True Comfort in the Face of Life’s Challenges and Losses
When faced with problems, disappointments, and unmet emotional needs, human beings often look for relief and direction in the wrong places. Many people, for example, seek comfort in the words of friends and family. Of course, having someone’s support is important, but every person is limited, and therefore, the comfort that comes from them may not be enough.
There are still those who try to resolve their difficulties by acquiring material goods, going on trips, and having fleeting experiences, but they encounter disappointment and despair instead. Unfortunately, many still do not realize that the Holy Spirit is the only One capable of guiding human beings in any situation and filling the void many feel.
In a post on her blog, columnist Viviane Freitas comments on the biblical passage in which, upon returning to Heaven, the Lord Jesus states that the Holy Spirit is the necessary Comforter:
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” (John 16:7)
In his published annotations, while meditating upon John 16:7, Bishop Edir Macedo explains that Jesus’ absence caused pain to the disciples, but, with the Holy Spirit, He was able to console them and also thousands of people. “Those who want to walk by faith will receive the continued assistance of the Master within themselves. This shows that the Holy Spirit fulfills the task of perfectly filling all the absence that the Master left when He ascended to Heaven.”—Wrote the bishop.
Based on this understanding of the Comforter, Viviane adds, “When a person receives the Holy Spirit, they receive the Thoughts of God and God Himself within them. And He has the purpose of guiding and directing them; therefore, they will not be alone.”
However, how can a person have the Comforter in their life? To receive the Holy Spirit, Viviane advises that the first and most important condition is to accept Jesus as your only Lord and Savior, which demands repentance and total surrender. “The Holy Spirit is found by those who seek God, those who give themselves to God completely along with their dreams, wrong intentions, and obsessions,” she details.
With the Holy Spirit, a person has this source of comfort at all times and occasions. Therefore, dear reader, do not settle for superficial and temporary comfort. When faced with a problem, don’t limit yourself to just talking to someone—take your life in prayer to the Comforter and seek His help. “Having the Holy Spirit means having a Father, a Spiritual Coach, a Helper, a Comforter who consoles in difficult times and makes the person willing to start all over again and to learn,” she concludes.
