After months of dedicated evangelistic work, The Universal Church has opened the doors of its first church in Sri Lanka. This milestone marks the culmination of efforts that began seven months ago, bringing the message of faith and hope to a country in need.
Sri Lanka, an island nation located just south of India, is home to approximately 22 million people. Colombo, the capital city, has now become the site of the latest temple of The Universal Church. On March 10th, 2024, the church officially opened its doors, offering the people of Colombo a place to seek spiritual guidance and support.
For over four decades, The Universal Church has been reaching out to those in need, spreading the Word of God across the globe. Since its founding in 1977, the church has expanded beyond Brazil to countries as diverse as India, China, Japan, Venezuela, Angola, South Africa, Portugal, and Russia. This global growth is a testament to the power of faith in transforming lives.
Pastor Joseph Ouverney, along with his wife Raquel, has been at the forefront of Universal’s mission in Sri Lanka since 2023. Their journey to establish the church was marked by perseverance and dedication. After months of searching, they found the perfect location—an old, abandoned cinema on Armour Street in Colombo. With the help of a few volunteers, they transformed the space into a vibrant place of worship that now accommodates hundreds of people.
The new temple of The Universal Church at 145 Armour Street, Colombo 12, stands as a beacon of faith in the heart of Sri Lanka, offering a place for people to connect with God and find the strength to change their lives. The church’s opening is a significant step in Universal’s ongoing mission to bring hope and spiritual renewal to every corner of the world.
