He explained that although this period is marked by difficulties, it is during these times that God works most profoundly in the lives of those He intends to use.

The Desert as the “University of the Holy Spirit”

A Place of Learning, Preparation, and Spiritual Formation

During his message, Bishop Macedo stated that the desert is indeed the “University of the Holy Spirit.” It is in this challenging environment that God imparts lessons that are difficult to learn in times of comfort, such as humility, patience, self-control, respect, and perseverance.

He stressed that God does not lead His servants into the desert without a purpose. Rather, this process is a preparation for what they will receive later. According to him, it is in the desert that God shapes those He desires to use in His work.

God Prepares His Servants in the Desert

Biblical Examples of Preparation Before Fulfilling God’s Purpose

Throughout Scripture, many great men and women of faith passed through deserts before fulfilling God’s purpose in their lives.

For instance, the Holy Spirit led the Lord Jesus into the desert to prepare Him for the beginning of His earthly ministry. Similarly, John was exiled to the Island of Patmos. Despite enduring forced labor, it was in that isolated place that he received the revelation of the Apocalypse.

Therefore, Bishop Macedo emphasized that God continues to use deserts to prepare those who will be instruments in His hands.

Learning to Hear the Voice of God

Difficult Seasons Can Deepen Communion With God

Another significant point the bishop made is that the desert fosters closer communion with God. Without the distractions of the world and excessive comforts, a person begins to pay more attention to the voice of the Holy Spirit and the guidance found in God’s Word.

He mentioned that a comfortable life often leads people to stop listening to God’s voice. In contrast, during difficult times, they are compelled to reflect, seek spiritual guidance, and develop a more conscious and obedient faith.

Tribulations Produce Growth

Perseverance, Experience, and Hope

Bishop Macedo referred to a passage in the book of Romans to highlight that the challenges faced in the wilderness contribute to spiritual maturity.

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:3-5)

In concluding the message, Bishop Macedo emphasized that the desert is a necessary part of the journey for all those whom God intends to use. Just as with the Lord Jesus, John, and many other biblical figures, God continues to use life’s deserts to mold mature and obedient servants who are prepared to fulfill His purpose.

Watch the Complete Message

You may find the complete meditation through the following YouTube link in the original language.
