Today, life is a constant rush. Time, along with the pressure and demand to overcome, to be happy and enjoy every moment, end up distracting the humanity in such a way that most people do not get the precious time to be alone with themselves. But it is only in the silent reflection of the soul, that each one faces their own essence and is able to see themselves for who they really are.
The simple question: “WHO AM I?” Is the most difficult question to answer.
It does not simply mean your name, your marital status or your profession, but it also refers to your personality, your character, and your entire being. People invest time in having a professional trainer, to learn something new or to improve their appearance, but few strive to find out why they spend all their time mulling over what they’ve done or planning what they want to do. They do not realize that their actions are usually driven by feelings such as envy, fear, anguish, jealousy, desire for revenge, anxiety or anger.
How can a person from the outside sometimes know you better than yourself?
Once the Lord Jesus said: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32). This Truth is first understood as the Word of God, which enlightens humanity’s understanding and frees it from all its spiritual prisons. But it can also signify “knowing the inner truth” within ourselves. Many lies may be concealed within a person, such as; she values herself too much, so she imposes herself on others in a rude manner. Or maybe, on the contrary, she devalues and belittles herself by judging herself as insignificant. Within the soul, there may be a thought that the reason for their suffering is always the fault of others. For example: “If my husband had not abandoned me, my life would be different.”; “If my ex-boss had not fired me, I would not have made those mistakes“. There are women who spend their whole lives blaming others for their failures.
In the process of self-discovery, you may come across a person quite different from who you thought you were. It may hurt because your greatest flaws will be revealed to you, but this is part of the healing process for your soul. This is the only way to achieve true happiness. As you go through this process, you will develop new perceptions about yourself and obtain much needed virtues in order to deal with the challenges of life. This discernment will make you anticipate your weaknesses, and make use of your strengths. After all, everyone has qualities, and will be able to change the flaws that they did not previously see or were not able to change.
Who can consider themselves truly free, if they have no power over their impulses and emotions if they cannot stay away from the passions, addictions, and feelings that imprison their soul?
