Do you know how to choose a friend?2 min read

Friendship Feature

FriendshipWe all know that no one is an island and that it’s very difficult to live isolated — actually, it’s not even good.

Of course, this does not mean we should surround ourselves with people everywhere we go. Of course not! We should have friends, and yes, we can be surrounded by people; but if you’re smart, you will make sure you are surrounded by the right kind of people – the ones who add to your life as much as you add to theirs.

I make sure I choose my friends very well. I’m friendly with everyone, but friends are very few.

In my opinion, friends are like jewels: they are precious, rare and of great value; you do not just find them anywhere or at any time.

From time to time, I get emails from youths complaining that they don’t have friends and would love to have a true friendship, but their friendships always end in disappointment.

Do you know what the reason for this could be?  You are not choosing your friends wisely or even being a friend yourself.

So, let’s first talk about choosing wisely.

You need to get to know the person. Choose the qualities that suit you as a person and analyze what you can offer to each other; you need to assess their character. Only after that, you can think, “Hmm, she could be my friend.” If I see that the person is a liar, is envious, jealous or likes to gossip, she’s already off my list of possible friends. After all, I seek a true friend and not a snake in the grass!

So dear friends, great caution is needed. Just imagine telling someone all about your life, sharing your thoughts, dreams, faults and failures with someone who then spreads it like wildfire; or someone who deep down inside is full of envy because of your achievements and even starts to pay attention to the guy you secretly said you liked… Could you imagine that?

Well, the truth is that friendship is something serious, and if it means to have false friends, I actually prefer to be an island and stand alone. However, there is a solution. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can be wise and choose our friends carefully as I have just mentioned above.
